Freshly Prepped - By Aralia Garden Designs
2009 saw our first Chelsea Flower Show construction project for an exhibit designed by Aralia garden design, earning a silver medal.
This garden certainly whets your appetite with an intimate space for entertaining, relaxing and above all preparing food.
A central island kitchen with granite work surfaces is at the heart, and provides the raison d’être for the edible planting that surrounds it on all sides.
Growing boxes are incorporated into the structure, packed with fruit and veg so the very freshest ingredients are close at hand. Surrounding this is a garden full of lemons, oranges and runner beans.
Herbs for teas, infusions, flavouring, as well as for cosmetic and medicinal uses create an aromatic backdrop, while apples and pears frame the central pergola and strawberries and tomatoes tumble from overhead ‘colander’ planting baskets. More produce bursts from an edible green wall, densely planted with baby-leaf salad crops.
An artfully-lit pergola adds the finishing touch to this most appetising of spaces!
We spent many weeks in preparation, pre cutting the hardwood decking and preparing the kitchen units and planting trays to make sure everything went a smoothly as possible. |
